To advance the conservation, management, and understanding of SAV/seagrass by leveraging expertise, projects, data, and applied science through partnerships and collaboration to support and enhance decision-making.

Advancing the conservation, management, and mapping/monitoring of submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV)/seagrass in coastal areas to promote increases in SAV/seagrass coverage worldwide.

🥅 Goals

  1. Improve relationships, communication, and collaboration among participants and partners.
  2. Determine and share best practices for applied research, mapping, monitoring, data sharing, and to inform stewardship of SAV/seagrass.
  3. Generate increased awareness of, and improved opportunities to engage in, efforts to conserve, manage, and better understand SAV/seagrass by Alliance participants and partners.
  4. Improve coordination for data-sharing/availability.
  5. Preserve institutional data and knowledge

🎯 Objectives

  1. Provide a forum for Alliance participants and partners to collaborate more effectively.
  2. Provide expertise and information using the best available science and data to improve decision-making.
  3. Develop and/or improve best practices, in particular for mapping, monitoring, and data sharing.
  4. Promote education/training/outreach opportunities to preserve institutional knowledge.
  5. Respond to issues impacting SAV/seagrass with objective science, data, and expertise.
  6. Leverage capacity of partner organizations to accomplish the Mission of the Alliance.

Rules of Engagement:

  1. The Alliance is not a federal advisory committee.
  2. Formal membership in the Alliance is not, at this time, required. Individuals from government, academia, non-profits, for-profits, and others are welcome to participate.
  3. The Alliance is not a voting body. Decision-making will be conducted through consensus-building, while allowing for variance. 100% agreement is not required.
  4. The Alliance will apply a rigorous, analytical approach, focusing on facts, science, and data; strong partnerships; and a commitment to improve conservation and management of the resource.
  5. Because there is a need to respect the difference between open collaboration, technical assistance, and advocacy, Alliance participants are provided full flexibility to engage or not engage and/or endorse certain topics/discussions/projects/products.
